The Indiana Industrial Operators Association, Inc. (IIOA) Awards Committee is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2007 Awards. The awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony during WITtec 2007 on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the ValleVista Conference Center in Greenwood, Indiana. The largest industrial wastewater association in the state of Indiana, the Indiana Industrial Operators Association, Inc. is a not for profit association established to serve professionals in industrial wastewater treatment. The Awards Committee is pleased to announce the following 2007 awards.

Industrial Operator of the Year Award – 2007 - Roger Koors of Greensburg, IN

Each year an industrial operator is honored with the Industrial Operator of the Year award. The award is the highest award that is conferred by the IIOA and is earned by a licensed operator who has demonstrated outstanding service to the industry and the association as a “Water Quality Protector.”

The recipient of this year’s award is Mr. Roger Koors with Best Metal Finishing, Inc. Osgood, IN. Mr. Koors is a Charter Member of the IIOA and has been a Water Quality Protector for fourteen years. He holds a Class C Industrial license in the state of Indiana which is one of the higher licenses one can attain. Mr. Koors operates a state of the art DMP continuous flow-through wastewater treatment hydroxide precipitation metal removal system treating 80,000 gallons per day. He also operates a 1,500 gallon batch treatment system to treat concentrated solutions prior to bleeding into the continuous flow system. Analytes of concern which must be removed from the wastewater stream prior to final discharge to the city include Zinc, Chromium, Copper, Sulfates, Chlorides and pH from the zinc plating and zinc phosphatizing operations. His wastewater treatment system features a programmable logic controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) software application. Because the company faces very tight effluent discharge limits, they must meet on a daily basis (Zn 0.7mg/l), they invested in an Atomic Absorption (AA) Unit for wastewater analyses. Roger’s oversight is a classic example of what it takes to truly realize where your numbers are when you are a SIU and be diligent in the management of wastewater on a daily basis. Best Metal Finishing is classified as a Significant Industrial User (SIU) in the town of Osgood, IN. And as such the skill and attention of the operator is critical to maintaining compliance with effluent discharge parameters. It is with great pride that we recognize the Industrial Operator of the Year Mr. Roger Koors.
